Artifact 2.ABrief Description of Artifact: Tulsa Model TLE Trainer Certificate
Explanation of how artifact demonstrates standard: Once the Tulsa Model Teacher and Leader Effectiveness (TLE) Observation and Evaluation System was approved by the Oklahoma State Department of Education for the pilot year implementation of Oklahoma’s new teacher evaluation system under Senate Bill 2033, I was recruited to be one of the trainers of the model. During the summer and fall of 2012, hundreds of principals and superintendents as well as other administrative staff were trained by the cadre of trainers for the model. Over 500 districts in the state chose the Tulsa Model as their instrument for the new evaluation system, and I had the privilege of being one of 50-something trainers that provided professional development across the state. In addition, I was one of several trainers who provided “calibration” training for the Tulsa Model as an ongoing part of the implementation of this statewide initiative. I also presented the Tulsa Model to the full staff of two districts in eastern Oklahoma. Significance to professional development: In an effort to compete for Race to the Top funds under the leadership of President Barack Obama, Oklahoma passed legislation and in 2012 implemented a new, more rigorous, teacher and leader evaluation system. Districts across the state are now using either the Tulsa Model or the Marzano Model. Being a trainer of the model has given me the opportunity to interact with administrators across the state, to train evaluators in providing instructional leadership at their school sites, and to provide follow-up support to central office staff and principals in the district where I am currently serving as a superintendent intern (Standard 7). |
Artifact 2.BBrief Description of Artifact:
Role of the Principal in school improvement presentation Explanation of how artifact demonstrates standard: This was a presentation prepared for the School Improvement and Reform Practices course and presents the research that indicates the role a principal should play in improving their schools. Significance to professional development: This document was significant to my professional grown because it required a review of effective schools research and focused on a presentation format that would share with building level administrators the background knowledge to influence curricular and instructional decisions. |
Artifact 2.CBrief Description of Artifact: CCSS District Transition Plan
Explanation of how artifact demonstrates standard: This draft document was prepared for the district's RAO (Regional Accreditation Officer) as required by the Oklahoma State Board of Education. Oklahoma has adopted the Common Core State Standards and Standard 2 requires a district administrator to lead district change and collaboration that focuses on improvements to district practices, student outcomes, curriculum and instruction. Significance to professional development: This was significant to my own professional development because it was a real life application of addressing curriculum and instruction issues as a district level leader. |
